International Women's Day 2021: Fearless Females Who Inspired Team AC

March 8th 2021 is an important day, and one that we’re proud to celebrate here at Absolute Collagen: it’s International Women’s Day!

While we pretty much celebrate and cheer on women every day - after all, our founder, CEO, and Collagen Queen Maxine is a powerhouse businesswoman who made it her mission to empower others - International Women’s Day is a great opportunity to really celebrate the amazing women out there.

Whether it’s a woman we know personally who has overcome great challenges, or someone from history or culture who became a household name, it’s all about the fearless females who inspire us at Team AC.

Here’s just some of the phenomenal women who have inspired our team:

  • Emmeline Pankhurst. She was a British political activist best remembered for organising the British suffragette movement, founding the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) and helping British women win the right to vote. She noticed that women were treated differently - and worse - to men, and fought hard for positive change.
  • Angela Merkel. Looking to the present day, Angela Merkel is the Chancellor of Germany who inspires through her leadership, working in a male-dominated political environment and standing her ground to win respect from others.
  • Greta Thunberg. A teenage climate activist who has achieved incredible things at a very young age, she was responsible for starting the School Strike for Climate, which became a worldwide phenomenon and encouraged more than one million people across the globe to join her.
  • Meghan Markle. A successful actress and the wife of Prince Harry, she has faced a lot of criticism and intrusion into her life against which she fights back, holding her ground and doing things her way, while also using her platform to do some amazing work with charities and good causes.
  • Jesy Nelson. A singer often known as 'the other one' in her Little Mix days, she has dealt with online trolling and turned her experiences into a documentary to help and inspire others, spreading her mantra of "if we were all the same, it'd be boring!"

And finally, the woman Maxine credits with keeping her safe as a child: Josephine Butler. This incredible Victorian-era English feminist fought against child trafficking and exploitation, and as part of this mission she successfully got the age of consent raised, protecting countless young people.

But remember - you don’t have to change the world to be celebrated on International Women’s Day. It’s also a chance to thank and honour the ladies who aren’t global changemakers, but who make everyday differences, enacting small changes that make big differences to individuals. As Maxine always says: “Women! We’re bloody amazing!”
