Collagen and Women’s Hair Loss

Here at AC HQ, we’re always talking about collagen’s effects on skin – but we’re also fans of promoting gorgeous, thicker-looking hair.

Ageing, loss of collagen, and the menopause can all create new haircare challenges – including, in the case of the menopause, female hair loss.

Hair loss can be a difficult and emotional experience that can have a real effect on confidence, especially for women. That’s why we’re here to provide our Absoluters with all the info and support you need around hair loss, the menopause, and more.

Hair Loss and the Menopause

So, what’s the connection between hair loss and the menopause?
During the early stages of the menopause, sometimes called the perimenopause, menstrual cycles can change drastically. This means that cycles can become both heavier and more frequent.

Our amazing trichologist, Eva Proudman, has recently explained that heavier cycles can lead to a loss of serum ferritin, also known as iron. Low ferritin levels have been associated with excessive hair shedding – and, as Eva points out, Absolute Collagen can keep our ferritin levels in good shape by providing an amino acid called lysine, which helps the body to absorb iron.

Meet Top Trichologist Eva Proudman

We’re exceptionally proud to have Eva on board. Not only is she a font of haircare wisdom, but she’s also Chairman of the Institute of Trichologists – so she really knows her stuff when it comes to all things hair.

Consultations with Eva are one of the many perks of subscribing to Absolute Collagen and becoming an Absoluter. She recommends a daily dose of Absolute Collagen because, as we’ve mentioned, our collagen contains important amino acids needed by our hair.

Of course, the hair care impact of our collagen doesn’t end with lysine! Absolute Collagen also contains other amino acids that your hair will thank you for.

Plus, it’s rich in protein. When you don’t consume enough protein, your body will prioritise the areas that need it most – leaving hair follicles literally high and dry. Not just dry, but brittle and more prone to shedding, too!

It’s no wonder that our Absoluters report lustrous, thicker-looking hair, while ensuring that their diet isn’t lacking in much-needed protein.

Different Kinds of Hair Loss

There are a range of reasons for hair loss. It’s not just men who encounter hair loss that runs in the family: female pattern baldness is a condition that Eva has discussed for us before in one of her fantastic guest blogs.

Beyond hereditary reasons, hair loss can be caused by stress, illness, treatments for certain conditions, weight loss, or – as we’ve mentioned – iron deficiencies due to issues like perimenopause.

It’s important to remember that there’s plenty of support available for anyone concerned about a loss of hair, ranging from GP advice to support groups for people with conditions like alopecia. And of course, Team AC and your fellow Absoluters are always here to support you too.

We’re always on hand to provide tips and tricks for managing thinning hair, and we can tell you everything you need to know about female pattern hair loss too.
