Collagen and Vitamin C: the Perfect Partnership

At Absolute Collagen, we like to keep our Absoluters informed when it comes to all things collagen, and we’re committed to creating a premium quality product. We only use the highest quality marine collagen, ready mixed and ready to take straight from the sachet, enriched with Vitamin C.

But what is Vitamin C, why do we need it, and what does it have to do with collagen supplements? Read on to find out!

What is Vitamin C?

In simple terms, Vitamin C - also known as ascorbic acid - is a vitamin with several important functions within the body. These include keeping cells healthy and protecting them from oxidative stress (which is when harmful free radicals caused by things like UV exposure cannot be effectively detoxified by the body’s other cells), as well as supporting healthy skin, bones, blood vessels and cartilage.

How do Vitamin C and collagen work together?

But that’s not all - Vitamin C also supports your body’s collagen formation. It’s actually the essential cofactor in two molecules essential for collagen synthesis, prolyl hydroxylase (to stabilise the collagen molecule) and lysyl hydroxylase (to give structural strength cross-linking).

In practical terms, this means that any collagen supplement you take should have Vitamin C included, to ensure that the collagen can work effectively in your body. While some people have enough Vitamin C from their diet - you can get it from sources including citrus fruits, broccoli, strawberries and peppers - we can’t assume everybody does - although we do of course recommend following a balanced, healthy diet! We want every Absoluter to get the maximum from each dose of Absolute Collagen, regardless of dietary differences, which is why we include Vitamin C in our award-winning supplement.

Why do we only include Vitamin C in Absolute Collagen?

Unlike some vitamins, Vitamin C can be taken at any time of the day, so Absolute Collagen is great for taking on the go as part of your daily routine, however busy!

We keep our award-winning collagen drink simple: collagen is the star ingredient, with Vitamin C added to enable it to work most effectively within the body. No mess, no fuss, no additional ingredients - this way, you’re free to take Absolute Collagen alongside any other vitamins or supplements you may wish to take. It’s all about finding what’s right for you.
